How much should my deposit be?

The amount you put down on a property will depend on the type of loan you are applying for. Most loan programs require you to have a total deposit of between 5% and 20% of the purchase price. However, there are some loans, especially for first-time homebuyers, veterans, or those in active service, which will allow you to put down as little as 3% or in some instances they may require no down payment
at all.
